I proposed the single-family space colony as an example of how to reframe even the biggest, most well-entrenched paradigm. I’m balancing on a knife-edge between design and science fiction.
The devil is in the details, and some people love to nitpick, so this post will be a response to some potential objections to my single-family space colony design. I’m also going to show you how we can take this basic unit and use it to construct the orbital equivalent of the neighbourhood, the village, or the town. And I’ll include a couple of embarrassingly crude 3D renders I’ve done to show you what the inside of such a habitat might look like. Then I’ll circle back to why we would want to undertake an exercise like this in the first place—beyond, you know, the sheer fun of it.
